*RULES & HOW TO PLAY:*

1. The pitch is where most of the action takes place. This will be one of the courts in Olson Forum

2. The game will begin with both teams at opposite ends of the pitch, the Quaffle will be placed at the center of the Pitch. Bludgers will be placed at the center on the sidelines. The first Chaser to get to the Quaffle gains possession. Play will begin at the Referee’s call. After every score that is made, play will resume in the same manner (Seekers are exempt from this).

3. The Quaffle is passed from chaser to chaser.  Chasers may pass the Quaffle as in Basketball or kick the Quaffle as in Soccer.  Chasers, however, may NOT run while holding the Quaffle. Other team members (Beaters, Seekers, and Bludgerers) may NOT touch the Quaffle.

4. There is one Beater and one Bludgerer. The Bludgerer throws the Bludger at the opposing team. If/when the Bludger hits the opposing Chaser they must immediately drop the Quaffle and freeze for three seconds (counting out loud; “1-2-3”). The Quaffle may then be picked up by any other Chaser. Bludgerers must throw the Bludger from the sidelines. Bludgerers are allowed to move within the boundary lines to retrieve a Bludger. If two Bludgerers from opposing teams are chasing the same Bludger it goes to the Bludgerer who makes first contact with the Bludger. The Chasers, and Seekers may not touch, pickup, or kick the Bludgers. The Beaters, however may kick or bat the Bludger in the direction of their own Bludgerers and away from the Bludgerers of the opposing team.

5. Bludgerers may also attempt to hit the Quaffle and knock it off course.

6. The Beaters will try to block the Bludgers from hitting their own teammates. The Beater can only hit/kick the Bludgers (including to return Bludgers to Blugerers).

7. The Keeper guards the hoop. Since hoops are relatively tall, the Keeper is allowed to utilize a broom to hit the Quaffle, but not people. Keeper cannot leave goal area (10 foot line). If the Keeper successfully blocks an attempted goal and can recover the Quaffle while it is still inside the Keeper line he/she can throw the Quaffle back in to one of his/her team's Chasers.

8. Chasers cannot enter goal area unless they are in possession of the Quaffle.

9. No points may be scored from behind the goals. Quaffles must be thrown through the goals, any other method is not allowed and will not count.

10. 10 points will be awarded for getting the Quaffle through the opposing team’s hoop.

11. If the Quaffle is thrown out of bounds it goes to the opposing team who then brings the Quaffle back into play by having one of their Chasers stand just outside of the boundary and throw the Quaffle in to a teammate in the same manner as is done in basketball (during a boundary throw, Bludgerers cannot throw Bludgers at the Chaser to disturb the throw-in).

12. The Snitch is a person dressed in all yellow and wearing a flag football belt. They must stay in Olsen/Memorial Complex, but have free roam. They can go through any open doors, but may not open any doors themselves.  They must return to the pitch every seven minutes in order to make their existence known. The Snitch can be released at any time in the game.

13. Seekers must bring part of the Snitch’s belt back to the pitch in order to gain their 150 points and end the game. Once it is obtained from the Snitch, it cannot be taken/stolen/reclaimed by the other team or the Snitch.

14. Games will have a maximum time limit decided by both teams prior to play.

*PENALTIES:*

1. Bludgerers entering the pitch to throw a Bludger will result in a 10-point penalty for offending team.

2. No headshots, if one occurs a 10-point penalty and the offending Bludgerer will sit out of the game for 1 minute.

3. The Keeper cannot block goals from behind; any attempts to do so will result in an automatic goal and a 5-point penalty.

4. Holding another player so as to interfere with their playing. Holding a Chaser to prevent throwing or catching the Quaffle, holding the Seeker to prevent pursuit or catching of the Snitch will all result in 10-point penalties to the opposing team, the offending player must sit out of the game for 1 minute. The offending team is not allowed to send in a substitute for the lost player.

5. Colliding with another player with intent to knock them down. Loss of 10-points from the offending team and possible time penalty; Referee's discretion.

6. If the piece of the Snitch belt is taken/recovered/stolen from the Seeker, the offending team will forfeit the game.

7. Any interference (holding, tripping, etc.) with the Snitch will result in 50-point penalty for offending team.
